What is Thai Massage?

Thai Massage (also known as lazy man’s yoga) is an ancient bodywork technique that has been around for over 2500 years. Thai Massage is a fusion of yoga stretches, traditional massage, and acupressure. It combines meditative breathing, deep stretching, and acupressure techniques to give full body relaxation, with many health benefits.

Thai Yoga Massage is performed on a floor mat. Both client and practitioner are dressed in comfortable clothing for ease of movement and flexibility. Each session is modified to specifically treat the needs of each client.

Nicole Anthony is an RYT200 Yoga Instructor and Level 2 Intuitive Energy Therapist with over 7 years of leading private and group classes. Along with her passion for yoga, there came a deep connection to the ancient healing practice of Thai Bodywork.

With training from Master Thai Bodyworkers of traditional Thai Massage, Nicole creates a peaceful experience that attends to the energetic, spiritual and emotional bodies. Nicole’s clients leave with a sense of peace for both the body and mind.

Thai massage is often called “lazy yoga” even though it uses techniques similar to the Swedish massage. The Thai massage uses acupuncture points that stretch and loosens the muscles. It helps to release tension and relieve joints.

Thai massage is based off an ancient system that combines acupressure, Indian Ayurvedic methods, and yoga positions.

A Thai massage will make you feel rejuvenated and energized. It uses a technique called blocking and releasing the blood flow. It involves applying pressure to the area where the legs and arms meet at the torso. Once the pressure is released, the client will feel heat as the blood rushes back to the limbs.

The massage usually takes place on a floor mat. There is constant body contact between the client and the therapist. The therapist uses her hands, knees, legs, and feet to move the client into a series of yoga-like poses. She also applies acupressure, muscle compression, and joint mobilization.

How long of a session should I have?

The length of session always varies on clients and their needs. A 60 minute Thai Massage is enough time to address needs of full body. Longer sessions (90 minutes or 2 hours) are ideal for clients with specific issues or wish to focus on a particular area.

Physiologically, the body gets re-aligned in a way that increases flexibility and circulation. More subtle harmonizing of energies result in the overall integration of body, mind and soul. We get to remember how good it can feel to be in our bodies.

Is it OK to eat before/after the session?

In order to have more energy in the body available, it is recommended to not eat anything an hour prior to the appointment.

To allow the process to continue, as it does, after the practitioner ends the actual session, it is better not to eat or do strenuous exercise for at least an hour afterwards. Drinking copious amounts of warm water or hot tea is highly beneficial and necessary to flush out toxins that may have been released during the treatment. The more you are able to relax after the session, the longer the benefits have time to integrate.
